Innovative Transport Solutions developed Cape Town’s Transport Development Index (TDI), which is the baseline for understanding transport in Cape Town as it relates to user groups across different income brackets. The user groups are public transport users, private transport users, non-motorised transport users and freight (road and rail) users. Direct costs refer to out-of-pocket expenses associated with a journey — the cost of a public transport ticket or any direct costs associated with private transport. Indirect costs are those incurred due to travel time costs of delays, lives lost in crashes, crime etc.
